A Bit of Light in the Darkness

Just a quick update after my post “Scanxiety” & for those of you who don’t follow me on social media:

Last week when Dylan went into hospital for his vincristine no.20/44, the consultant read us the entirety of the results from Dylan’s MRI scan on 27.4.18.

She told us definitively that the only problem with his back is a congenital birth defect: L5 pars defect with grade 1 anterior spondylolisthesis. Basically a tiny bit of his spine is missing so causes him pain.

The sheer relief we felt when we found out it wasn’t avascular necrosis or anything more sinister was more than just palpable. It’s a common condition (although not normally congenital) & can be dealt with through regular physiotherapy. He’s a got an appointment with the orthopaedic spinal clinic in a few weeks & then he’ll have regular physio to strengthen his back muscles. It’s been like having a second dark cloud hanging over us…but for the first time in weeks I feel like I’m breathing a bit better.

This is good news: a bit of light in the darkness.
